Fencing Bout

Welcome to Bexley Fencing Club, we are one of the countries oldest fencing clubs. Founded in September 1950, which makes us 73 years old! We were originally founded as a foil club, our first coach was know as Punch Betram.

Bexley Fencing Club evolved through the years from a foil club into a foil, epee and sabre club. We have returned to our roots and are currently a foil only club.

Our Reader Cadets (Juniors) are now out competing in local competitions and the London Youth Games so watch this space for updates on their progress.

Bexley Fencing Club offers high-quality fencing training to people of all ages and skill levels. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced fencer, we will help you improve your skills and achieve your goals.

Under the stewardship of Peter Barwell, former Commonwealth Gold Champion in Foil and five times Junior British Champion, Bexley Fencing Club is going from strength to strength.

The club is affiliated to ZFW www.zfw-fencing.co.uk

Why Fence?

Fencing is one of five sports that has appeared at every Olympic Games since the first modern Games were held in 1896.

Modern fencing as we know it is based on sword fighting. Fencing demands speed, anticipation, reflexes and great mental strength.

Fencing is a great way to keep your mind and body fit.

Why would you not want to take up fencing?

At Bexley Fencing Club, we are dedicated to providing the best fencing training to our members. We guarantee that you will see significant improvements in your skills and fitness levels after training with us. Our experienced coaches will work with you to develop your skills.

Footwork

Footwork is an essential part of fencing. Our coaches will teach you how to move efficiently and quickly on the fencing strip, how to change direction, and how to control your distance from your opponent.

Blade Work

Blade work is the foundation of fencing. Our coaches will teach you the proper grip, stance, and movement of the fencing weapon. You will learn how to attack, defend, and counter-attack with precision and speed.

Sparring

Sparring is the ultimate test of your fencing skills. Our coaches will guide you through various sparring scenarios, helping you to apply your skills in realistic situations. You will learn how to read your opponent's moves, anticipate their actions, and react quickly and effectively.
